UNESCO World Heritage Day on 5th of June

On the 5th of June will be the first German World Heritage Day, promoted by the German Commission for UNESCO.

Here a press release (in german only) can be found.

Generally the establishment of such a day is very deserving.
Visitors and inhabitants of UNESCO World Heritage Sites can learn more about the UNESCO World Heritage Convention and the Ideas behind UNESCO World Heritage.

But a quick search at google shows that internationally already the 18th of April was set up as International Day for Monuments and Sites 1982 and is promoted as World Heritage Day by ICOMOS.

Now the question is rising why there should be second date at national level. If all 179 staates that have ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention act like this, almost every second day of the year could be a World Heritage Day somewhere on earth.

The UNESCO World Heritage Convention was made to saveguard the collective heritage of mankind:

What makes the concept of World Heritage exceptional is its universal application. World Heritage sites belong to all the peoples of the world, irrespective of the territory on which they are located.

This was a paradigm shift in heritage preservation. Where in the past only nations where responsible for the safeguarding of their heritage, now an intergovernmental committee is set up (World Heritage Committee).

It should be considered if the World Heritage Committe could agree upon an International World Heritage Day. A possible Date could be the 18th of April, the International Day for Monuments and Sites which is - regarding to this article - already supported by UNESCO and called World Heritage Day by ICOMOS.

Already popular throughout europe are the European Heritage Days in September.
With these popular activities the importance of heritage preservation can be promoted in a good manner. This could be a model for the arrangement of an international World Heritage Day.

I have never been much in favour of online shopping. The idea that the ancient physical delight of strolling the marketplace or bazaar and taking in its sights and smells might one day be replaced by clicking and dragging from a desktop is one I have always found more repugnant than convenient. But that was before I found out aboutWhat is Etsy? If you ask its founder, 27 year old Brooklyn based Rob Kalin, Etsy is "a childhood word from a Fellini movie" that he chose because "it embodies the curiosity of imagination" (the naughty Kalin has also playfully told the press that Etsy comes...
http://bestnews-4u.com/
